At Brookeswood quality, design and security come first
It’s not just the quality of our design and our craftsmanship that we pride ourselves on at Brookeswood but the level of security our timber windows and doors provide too.
In our latest blog we get quite technical to demonstrate just how seriously we take security, and to show that when you buy your windows and doors from us, peace of mind comes as standard.
Exceptional Quality Ironmongery
Our hardware suppliers are renowned within the industry for their exceptional quality. By partnering with these well-known ironmongers, we ensure that our timber windows and doors are equipped with tried, tested, and accredited hinges, locks and handles. This guarantees that the high-quality craftsmanship of our products is matched by the superior quality of the hardware we use.
Advanced Sealing Systems
Our windows and doors feature advanced sealing systems designed to enhance weathertightness and efficiency:
- Casement Windows: Both our stormproof and flush casement designs come with double draught exclusion as standard.
- Door Sets: Equipped with dual seals for optimal weathering protection.
- Sash Windows: Incorporate a brush and compression seal system that creates an airtight closure when the fasteners are secured.
High-Security Multi-Point Locks
To comply with Building Regulations for Security (Part Q), our casement windows and door sets are fitted with high-security (Secured by Design) multi-point locks and corresponding routered rebated keep sets. Ensuring comprehensive security across all of our products.
In More Detail
Door Locks:
- Feature 3-point locking shoot bolts at the top and bottom.
- Include a solid deadlock in the centre, below the handle latch.
- Incorporate a 3* high-security locking cylinder with horizontal key slots, offering anti-drill, anti-bump, anti-snap properties, a crumple zone, and grip resistance for maximum security.
Window Locks:
- Utilising a multi-cam locking system with interlocking ‘mushroom’ heads and a two-stage keep for maximum security, ensuring airtightness and offering a secure ventilation position.
Fully Lockable Handles
All of our window and door handles are fully lockable, meeting insurance company standards and enhancing the overall security provided by our multi-point locking systems.
Building Regulation Compliance for Ventilation
To meet Building Regulations for Ventilation (Part F):
- Habitable Rooms: Require a minimum airflow of 8400m².
- Bathrooms: Require a minimum airflow of 4500m².
- Our trickle ventilators, discreetly integrated behind a 40mm head drip, with a stainless-steel insect mesh insert, ensure secure background ventilation without compromising aesthetics or inviting unwanted pests.
- These ventilators are available in standard RAL finishes or can be customised to match your internal colour scheme by us using spray coating.
Fire Escape Compliance
- To comply with Part B1 of building regulations for fire escape, we use egress pivot hinges that maximise the opening space of our casements.
- Where smaller openings are a constraint, a floating mullion with flush fitting finger bolts can be used to create a greater opening area, ensuring compliance with the regulation.
Bi-Folding Door Systems
Our bi-folding doors can be customised with either a top-hung sliding system or a bottom roller system, depending on location and weight capacities. Each door can measure up to one meter, with the option to add multiple doors to meet your bi-folding needs.
And Finally
Sash Window Options
- Spiral Balance System: Replaces traditional lead weights and pulleys with a modern spring-loaded mechanism, allowing for thinner jambs and a traditional appearance suited for new builds.
- Traditional Weights & Pulleys: Offers an authentic look with options for finishes on pulleys, rings, sash lifts, and fitch fasteners, preserving the classic appeal of traditional sash windows.
By incorporating these advanced features and high-quality hardware, we provide timber windows and doors that not only meet, but exceed industry standards for security, ventilation, and fire safety
