Glastonbury – Traditional Self Build
Traditional Self Build, Spiral Balance Sash Windows, French Doors and Casement Windows
Wanting to create a Traditional Self Build featuring high quality Sash Windows, Lee first discovered Brookeswood at the Homebuilding & Renovating Show at the NEC. Inspired by our craftsmanship, she entrusted us with the joinery for her ambitious self-build overlooking Glastonbury Tor.
How We Delivered
The project began with the demolition of a derelict cottage, clearing the way for a striking new luxury home. One of the home’s most distinctive features is the locally sourced Blue Lias stone, known for its beautiful grey-blue hue. To complement the delicate tones of the stone and Bath stone lintels, Lee sought timber windows and doors that would enhance the façade without overpowering it.
We provided a bespoke painted window sample for approval, which arrived fittingly on Valentine’s Day 2018. The chosen exterior colour was matched to Farrow & Ball French Grey, while the interior was matched to Farrow & Ball Wimborne White. The result is a harmonious, elegant finish that perfectly balances the property’s architectural character.
The brief included a combination of sliding sash and casement windows, along with French doors and folding sliding doors.
The Result
We crafted all elements from engineered Red Grandis, a timber selected for its exceptional stability and durability. The sash windows feature spring balances and Georgian-style astragal bars, enhancing the property’s Georgian-inspired front elevation.
Each window and door received a factory-applied, microporous spray finish, designed for longevity and low maintenance. The interior finish was colour-matched to Farrow & Ball Wimborne White; the exterior to Farrow & Ball French Grey, ensuring a seamless transition between inside and out.
