Water-based paint – why it is Brookeswood’s paint of choice

At Brookeswood Joinery water-based paint is our paint of choice.

In a world where sustainability is increasingly important, it’s another step towards doing all we can to help protect the environment, but how can something as simple as using the right paint make a difference?

Well for a start water-based paints have significantly lower levels of something called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) compared to oil-based paints. VOCs can contribute to air pollution and can pose health risks to both people and the environment.  Using water based paints helps keep our staff safe and minimises our carbon footprint.

Water-based paints are generally considered more environmentally friendly throughout their lifecycle too. They require less energy to manufacture, produce less waste during application, and are easier to clean up with water instead of harsh solvents.

Safety is of course paramount in our workshop, especially one that involves wood and paint. Unlike oil-based paints, which are flammable and require careful handling and storage, water-based paints are non-flammable, that helps us reduce fire hazards, creating a safer environment for our team.

Water based paints also allow wood to breathe which because of the products we design, and produce is an aspect that’s really important. Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. Water-based paints are more flexible than their oil-based counterparts, allowing wood to breathe and move without cracking or peeling. That means our windows and doors last much longer as well as eliminating the need for frequent repairs.

And because water-based paints offer excellent durability and colour retention it also means less maintenance. They resist cracking, fading, and yellowing, preserving Brookeswood Joinery’s craftsmanship for years to come.

As well as their practical benefits, water-based paints offer a contemporary finish. Their smooth texture and wide range of colours allow Brookeswood Joinery to customise each project to suit our client’s aesthetic preferences. Whether it’s a sleek urban loft or a rustic countryside retreat, water-based paints enhance the visual appeal of every piece.
